Ada Sheriff: 'Deputy' asking for money to cancel arrest warrant is all kinds of scam

The scammers are out in full force trying to target folks in Ada County.

The sheriff's office on Friday says the popular fake arrest warrant scam is making the rounds around the area once again.

"We’ve had numerous reports this week of scammers pretending to be ACSO deputies – one of the names they’ve used is “Sgt. Pat Calley,” who retired in 2019 — who use phone numbers with a 208 area code to sell the ruse," the sheriff's office said.

Some of the scammers are even telling them about a fictitious kiosk they can use outside the sheriff's office to take care of the warrant.

"When people get here and find no kiosk, they call the number back and the scammers direct them to a store to put money on a credit card," police say.

If you've received one of these calls you're asked to call 208-377-6790.
